This is the SSPR state that will be used in this article. Using this state, you can add users to a target group in batches. This is useful when doing a staged rollout.

Selected – In this state, SSPR is applied to a selected group only.

Admins are required to use two authentication methods to reset their own passwords using SSPR. Note: SSPR is always enabled for admins even if the state of SSPR is set to None.

None – In this state, SSPR is disabled for every user in your tenant.

Each state represents how SSPR is applied (or not applied) to users. This helps limit the possible impact on a minimum, especially when implementing SSPR in batches. It is a good thing that SSPR can be enabled to target only members of a selected group. One of the biggest concerns when implementing new features is how users can be impacted. But, the act of enabling is not the same as carefully implementing. The process of enabling SSPR is very straightforward.
